The Present is Female

Today is a historical day. It’s a day of many firsts.

We got to witness a woman, a Black and Brown woman, being sworn in as the Vice President of the United States. Kamala Harris, daughter to immigrant Indian and Jamaican parents, a graduate of an HBCU, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will be serving as the 49th Vice President.

Today we get to see glass ceilings being shattered. Herstory happening in real-time. The first but definitely not the last. A woman that could open many doors for other women. A woman we can now use as an example of the limitless possibilities for us and women in the future.

It is surreal witnessing this moment as an immigrant Black woman. To see a woman that looks like me taking up space in the White House is an incredible feeling. In this lifetime, I feel so blessed to experience a Black man being President for two terms and now a Black and Brown Woman as our VP.

It’s not like a flip has switched and everything will change overnight, but I’m very excited to see the page turn. I’m excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. It’s beautiful to know that some of my young family members will not know of a world without women in big leadership roles.

I’m standing tall in my joy today.

If you know me, you know I will never pass up an opportunity to be in a monochrome suit. It was only right that I recreated Kamala’s acceptance speech look with my good friend Emma.

Hopefully, we can be in DC attending the next inauguration ceremony for Kamala Harris as she makes history once again four years from today.

Cheers to boundless women and our Madam Vice President, Kamala Harris.

I hope you had a few moments of joy today.

Thank you for reading.
